Hammer on & Pull Off
Hammer on is an excellent technique to play a note without having to pick it. A good command over your hammer on can enable you to play lines on the guitar a lot faster as well. However, it does require a lot of strength & effort to hammer on a note especially if you are new to this. To hammer on a note, pick a note that is placed lower than the note that you want to hammer and without letting the sound of the first note die, use the force from your finger to sound the note. For eg; Pick a note on the 5h fret of the 1st string (A) with your 1st finger. Now without killing the sustain, i;e without lifting the 1st finger, hammer on the 7th fret of the same string (B) with your 3rd finger. The hammered note should be as loud and audible as the note that you first picked.

Pull off is a technique which is quite the opposite of a hammer on. In a pull you will pick the note hat is placed higher than the note you want to pull off to. After picking the first note, the finger that is playing the note will be moved in the downward direction, effectively pulling the string and making the note that is held on the lower fret to sound. Play the 7th fret of the 1st string (B) with your 3rd finger. Now make sure you have placed your 1st finger on the 5th fret of the 1st string (A) before lifting the 3rd finger. As you lift the 3rd finger try and make downward movement with the finger you are trying to lift in a way that it pull the string a bit and helps the note you are holding with the 1st finger (A) to sound. Once again the note is should be as loud and clear as the picked note.
